CORE “Family”: Eddie (4), CJ, Stephen, Sarah, Jeanine (mother), Craig (father)
Year of Grant: 2012
Connection to Industry: Eddie’s father worked at Sodexo.
CORE Grant Details: CORE sent the family to see the Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark Broadway show over Thanksgiving and CORE staff and Santa visited the family’s home in December to deliver Christmas presents!
Eddie’s mother tells his story: “Our son Eddie has Stage IV neuroblastoma. He has undergone 4 surgeries, 13 rounds (weeks) of chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy and almost 2 years later we are still fighting!
“Fighting for your child’s life is a nightmare to say the least. It’s very difficult to make time to take special care of your other children. First, they sent us for a night out on Broadway to see Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark! It was an amazing show and they treated us like VIPs. The kids couldn’t believe they got to pick any souvenir of choice and went on a back stage tour. Thanks to CORE, this was probably the best Christmas they have ever had. Santa coming to our home during his busy time was a huge surprise and made them feel so special.
“The kids were so excited to get new bikes, 3DSs, and other gifts. It was heartwarming to see them so happy and able to forget for a little while about everything else. Their Christmas vacation was made even more special with a surprise stay at the Nick Hotel in Orlando. Eddie had some priceless “normal” time with his siblings. Any gift cards we had left helped us relieve some of the financial burden of flying back and forth for treatment. We can’t thank you enough for helping us have some fun during this difficult time.
